Having worked with battery powered equipment since I left college, I took pleasant note that the three inventors of the lithium ion battery were awarded the Nobel Prize in chemistry.

One of them was 97 years old. I guess there is still plenty of time for me to get my Nobel since I'm only 62.
Lithium ion is certainly a game changer in battery technology. I’m kind of looking to lifepo4 for safer batteries though.
Lithium are also not exactly the most environmentally friendly batteries either:

Our RV House battery is a 12V 100AH LiFeMnPO4 (lithium iron manganese phosphate) unit. An outfit in Phoenix assembles them using cells manufactured for use in electric cars. We chose this battery because they are non-flammable in any circumstance including being shot with a high-velocity slug.
12oz beverage can for scale. It weighs 28#.

Correct me if I am wrong. We currently have lithium ion batteries, but no one has invented the technology to recycle them. Currently dead ones in storage or disposed. I have been told this by many respected engineers. I think a better Nobel should be awarded to the group that accomplishes recycling of these batteries.
