the percentage make-up of the car fleet of the PRR in 1950 in comparison to the table in the attached reference is:

 

          Boxcars         73

         Hopper cars    92

         gondolas        43

         flat cars          4

         stock cars        2 +.

Very interesting...neither the Rio Grande nor MoPac are listed as big players, but the Q and the Rock Island are.  As noted, many photos of narrow gauge Rio Grande and

RGS stock trains mention moving livestock to summer or winter pasture, which does

not sound cost effective, but must have been.  Nor does the idea of riding live stock

hither and yon on a train until a market can be found sound profitable.
