I am trying to run Proto 3.0 and 2.0 on a display layout in our store. I can lock them in to Forward only mode with the DCS but once I put them on conventional loop it reverts back.

In the manual it says you can put in Forward only mode with one whistle and 3 bells but I have not been able to get it to. Has anyone else tried this?

We have a button that you press to start the trains and if they will not run in forward only they are not going to work.

Following video with sound may help.  The engine starts in idle.  Pressing the DIRECTION button starts it moving Forward.  I suggest something around 10V as shown so the engine doesn't move too quickly.  Pressing W-B-B-B locks it into Forward and you hear the double horn blast confirmation sound.  The button timing can be tricky.  If your battery is good it will retain this locked-in-forward mode through subsequent power cycles.

Unlock it to normal operation by pressing W-B-B-B...or the W-B-B-B-B-B reset.  In either case you should get the double horn blast confirmation sound.  Whether setting or resetting this feature, I suggest around 10V so the engine is not moving too quickly.  In my experience the engines detect short W and B button presses more reliably at slower speeds.

Nice video Stan.  That's an excellent view of something that is always difficult to describe in text.

Silver Comet, I would only add to Stan's post that if the engine gives the two toot acknowledgment, but will not retain the setting after powering down, you will need to charge or replace the battery.

I will try again after watching this. Thanks so much.

I tried Z 1000 and z 4000 but maybe I was running at higher voltage and could not get it to take. I never got the double horn blast.

I agree. I seem to have no problem activating PFA or uncoupler but this is very frustrating. I am hoping the lower voltage is the key.
