I just obtained the beautiful K-Line 21" B&O Columbian cars and need a matching locomotive for them.  What do you recommend?  My guess is that I want a E7 diesel.  Did steam also pull these cars?  They seem to be too modern.

I want a scale locomotive and, for a diesel, it needs to have colors that closely match the K-Line colors.

As always, all help is greatly appreciated!  Thank you!

B&O was one of the first railroads to embrace diesel electric locomotives in passenger services starting with the EA in 1936.  While steam certainly did pull streamlined B&O cars at times, E units would be the most common choice.  The E7 is the most common road unit from 1945 on, but E8s were also used later.

I'm not a B&O expert, but I believe Pacific class steam locomotives were the predominant steam passenger power on the B&O.  Overall though, the B&O were early adopters of the diesel electric.  Those big EM-1s were not what they wanted during WWII, they just couldn't get more EMDs due to the War Production Board rules.

I always thought that the B&O passenger colors were blue and gray.

The early B&O streamlined scheme was a grey stripe in the window band with B&O blue top and bottom of the windows.  However, the person to get to respond to this thread would be either Ed Bommer, or Bob Heil.  Both of them know their B&O better than I could ever hope too.

The GGD cars have the correct colors as certified by the B&O experts.  I have never seen the K-Line B&O cars in person, but I had my eye on that set as well!  One can never have enough mismatched 21" cars for rainbow era Amtrak trains.

I have four of the K-Line cars.  I can see them from here - they are grey, not white.

My choice was a PA, but the B&O did not have them.  My second choicewas an E-7, but I was not happy with either the paint or the rivets, so it is a do- over.  I believe the B&O used FAs, F- units,  and either E-5s or something equally shovel- nosed-y.
