I gave Bluetooth Thomas set as a Christmas present this year,  However, the engine will not move. The engine is alive and makes steam engine noises,  The bell rings when commanded.  The engine will not move forward or reverse when commanded.  The motor is report as making noises as if it is trying to move.  Thomas has a worm/worm gear drive so one cannot turn the wheels.

I figure that the problem is one of these in decreasing order of probability:

  1.  The side rods are binding;
  2. The worm and worm gear are misaligned; or
  3.  The speed knob on the remote is broken.

Has anyone had a similar problem?

Jan

PS. In the meantime I'll send a tested replacement and eventual return the other loco to Lionel for warranty repair.

Jan,

Yes, of course the remote questions- did you put batteries it- turn it on and such.

Has the LionChief app on a cell phone or mobile device been tried with the Bluetooth?

The moving eye mechanism can get bound from a hard knock. It can stop the loco from moving.

Edit: This Thomas doesn't have the moving eye mechanism

They even removed the sound on/off switch

Looking into this more...

I don't think side rods - they are too simple

Most likely remote or board issue - try LionChief app from a cell phone to eliminate bad throttle in remote

or as you guessed - a binding gear from a drop or debris
