Is the Long Island RS-3 from Weaver correct? Did Long Island actually have a RS-3 that looked like that? I like the look of this diesel. I am just curious about it.

It is close to one paint scheme they had. You can see the restored one at the museum in Riverhead. The orange ends on the Weaver model don't reach the top of the engine. It doesn't bother me, I have one and like it.

Here's some info.

I don't think that Trainland sells these anymore, but call and ask.
Good Luck,
Ralph
I had one from Weaver and I thought it looked pretty good. It ran well. I also had them "weather" it and based on the pictures from the link above they did a great job! Wish I kept the pictures. Nice heavy engine!
I like the way the engine looks. Checked Trainland they don't sell Weaver items. Found wholesaletrains.com they have the Long Island plus Rock Island, NYC, Army in green and black and others. Thanks for all the info.
Mike
You are welcome and thank you for the info. of where I can get the U.S. Army, black and olive drab green, RS-3's.

I've seen the Weaver LIRR RS-3 and I don't like it at all. The gray is too light, and the orange isn't correct (it stops at the headlights instead of going over the top of the noses).
Stuart
The MTH Railking is nice but I don't like the fact there is no window or an engineer. At least with the Weaver you place an engineer in by the window. I mean it is a minor detailed. Maybe it is just me. You are correct with the Weaver model being light gray and the orange not going up high enough, but I still like it.
Mike
Weaver colors are totally incorrect. Even the most faded 3’s never looked that bad.
Stick with MTH. Any newer PS3 RK’s have engineers and smoke these days.
I have pointed out to Weaver about the reduced size fonts on all the recent box cars.
They just don’t look normal like the real photos.
I see the diesels are the same. 1558 is too small as you can clearly see by the photo.
Looks like the nose number is missing. Stack should be silver as well.
The graphics people were supposed to check into the font/logo size reduction issue.
Gerry Thanks for the offer on your k-line. Your price is very tempting considering the same train is listed on ebay for $350 and $385. Sirt I am a big fan of MTH trains and most of my engines are MTH, like I said that Weaver just looks good. (Right or Wrong). I guess each to their own, right, it's just suppose to be enjoyable. Thanks for the back and forth on this it was interesting. Gerry I will keep you in mind just in case I decide to buy one.
