Longer MTH Coupler Shanks for Boxcar

I have an MTH-RK "50" DD Plugged Box, 30-74767. It is painted for "UPP 9336". Of course it is not to Donald Duck's, "Is it scale?" but I got it to run with the three UP 70" early Primer cars built in the mid 1990's. Problem is the coupler shanks are too short to run with the domes. It looks as if I could take a screw off, and replace with a longer shank.

Does MTH sell replacement shanks? Of replacement trucks with longer shanks? Or am I going to have to place passenger trucks on this box for this idea to work?
