Mid afternoon I turned on the Berea Railcam and saw a slow moving and then stopping and then proceeding CSX Q384. He had 205 freight cars with 846 Axles. So I drove up to Mentor Ohio this evening to see him go by. This makes officially the longest freight train I have seen in person.

Eddie, thanks and yes it's WOW!.

Hokie71: What do you mean by - "I am sending to my grandson who always asks that question". or are you referring to asking him what you mention about moving to Ohio? And yes Ohio lately for trains has had a variety of power.

Also for some reason my topic title says 205 freights. It was suppose to say Freight Cars.

His question is "what is the longest train" and I typically show him some YouTube of an ore train in Australia with a ton of the same ore cars. Now we have a local one he can relate to.

Hokie, now I know what you mean. Yes, the CSX trains are getting longer and longer as the month's are going by. Some I've heard 290+. Now that's to long for a train with no DPU's in the middle or rear and just units up front. There's a Q561 I believe that comes from Cleveland to KY that runs 11,000 feet + long and has over 250+ and I've heard 300+. That's ridiculous.

I was in downtown Charlottesville, va around 4pm today and a csx was headed back to the mountains with a bazillion empty coalporters from Newport news I assume. Is there any way to see how many cars there were?  Only two es44 units pulling it -assuming nothing at the end pushing.

You get variety in your area, here it is full coal cars heading east and empties west.

The UP has gotten in on this parade lately too.  Heading into Omaha I have seen several in the 7500 foot range, and these have all been manifests.  Usually one helper about two thirds of the way back.  I wonder where these are headed.  All the way to Chicago or KC?  Unless they get broken up in Omaha or Council Bluffs somewhere.

Willy, yes the Berea cam does have sound. Yes, you do have to pay to see the Berea cam. But if you pay for the Berea cam along with that cam you also get Fostoria if you pay the $8.95 per month. If you pay for the Engineer Membership you get more camera locations which include Grand Island Nebraska, Chicago, Rochelle, Shenandoah WV, Coal City Illinois, & Bellevue Ohio. I only picked the Conductor Membership because I wanted to just view the Berea cam because I live east of Berea and if I see an NS or CSX eastbound, I have time to go out and see. Also a big plus if you become a member of Railstream.net is when you view the cameras you get a 20 minutes back up time meaning you can go back 20 minutes before live to view if anything came through. As for the Berea cam, that's how I found out about this Q384 I caught. The engines passed the cam and stopped before Holland Road do to a crewman and also Dynamic Braking issues I believe. So when he stopped in front of the railcam I was at 115 cars. Well the total length of him came to 205 cars and around 2.5 miles long. 846 axles is a very long train to say the least. HOKIE71, there really isn't a way to go back and count the cars unless there's a railcam or if you recorded the train or if your counting them as there going by. And WB47, which way do most of the UP freights go you see with DPU's? Also where do you see though's trains?
