Gentlemen,

In the process of bringing our new shelf ceiling layout up I find that my Legacy is back to solid double Red lights, never really stays Double Green at all.  I do believe I have everything connected correctly, Can I use regular AA batteries in the Legacy Hand Held Remote Control and try to test run my Legacy GP9 Northern Pacific, or will the regular AA not work correctly in the Legacy HHRC.  When the Legacy acted like this before I had to send it back to Lionel for major repairs.  I carefully put the Legacy into storage when we broke down the layout to move into our new home.  At this point I hope I do not have to send it back to Lionel again.  The DCS seems to be working fine, on the same Tracks.

One further question with a new layout do I need to reprogram my Legacy GP9 and other engines or should they come up correctly in the Legacy HHRC as they did on the other layout, simply by putting them on the Tracks and powering it up?

A little advise is definitely needed at this point.

I know it's Christmas and everyone is busy with the families, if someone has a little time I would appreciate some help with my Legacy package.

Merry Christmas everybody,

PCRR/Dave

The LC Christmas layout is working just fine!

Guns,

The batteries in the HHRC are the original Legacy Batteries, not regular AA's.  I will try putting regular Alkaline AA's in the Legacy HHRC and see if the Engines comes up with the Legacy HHRC.  I have not reset the base and nothing is running the legacy HHRC does not address the engines, got me a hunch my Base has a problem again or the original Batteries  are not recharging any more at all.  Can the original Batteries actually go bad with just one years use, and not be rechargeable any more?

Guns what kind new rechargeable batteries should I purchase for the Legacy HHRC unit?

DO NOT PUT THE HAND HELD ON THE BASE WITH REGULAR AA ALKALINE BATTERIES IN IT!!!! Unless you disable the charging feature on the base. There is a small switch on the bottom of the base that runs off the charging function of the base. I replaced all of my Legacy batteries with Energizer AA NiMH rechargeables and have not had a problem since.

Matt & Guns,

Ok the Legacy is running perfect again now, it definitely was the batteries, have another question for ya.

Can the original yellow and Green GP NiMN Batteries that came with my Legacy HHRC be recharged in my standard Ni-Cd battery recharger to try to save them.  Or are the MIMH not compatible with my NI-Cd charger?  Guns told me to charge them externally however not sure my charger is the right kind for the job with the NiMH

If the original NiMH batteries were left without charging for most of a year, it’s not surprising that the Lionel charger failed to bring them up. Toss them in the recycling bin and get new Energizer NiMH batteries with the Energizer charger that comes with it. When you put the Legacy away, take the batteries out and generally keep them charged. The charger comes with four batteries and they work well. I think Sam’s and Walmart have them.
