Anyone have, or know of any hobby shops, that have a Train America Stuidos SAW GEN2 board?
I have contacted Atlas in regards of that, but I have also made this topic to see if anyone might have one on hand.
Thanks in advance!

I have a TAS SAW board, how would I tell if it's a GEN2?
I tried to offer you these boards months ago and you didnt want them, whats changed?

It should clearly have "SAW GEN2" written on one side of the board, right next to the first pin array.

A lot has changed, I wasn't the one calling the shots at the time. But that's besides the point, I'm sorry for being rude to you at the time. Hopefully we can make that up some time.
Can you send me a pictures of the boards you were referring to back then?
In theory that board could work. But it might require me to change the configuration of some of the wires, that plug into the board, to make it work. It might not be super difficult to find a wiring diagram, but I am also concerned with space. It's extremely tight in the shell of my Atlas O Amtrak Dash 8, and that board might not fit in perfectly in place of the old board. Without contacting the metal antenna.
If I don't find an SAW GEN2 board in the end. I could just take the board out of my BNSF Dash 8, since it's got exactly the same board, and use the good board in my Amtrak Dash 8.
For the BNSF Dash 8, I could either put PS3 in it. Or put the bad board in it and convert it into a dummy engine. With sound and lights, and use it along side another engine.
Matt, that board is the TAS EOB, not the SAW board.
Refresh my memory, SAW board the one without Cruise?
I have a bunch more boards float8ng around in a box somewhere but I can’t find it.

Hey Michael,
Unfortunately I can't help you with the board but I did see you concern about wire management, not only do I know how to help, I have personal experience with this.
I have an Atlas Master SD60M that USPS used as a door stop for a few days it seemed. It was a total mess when I finally got it but I fell in love with the amount of detail on the engine and decided to keep it and make it run again. You think your space was tight? When all was said and done, my shell did not want to go back on! LOL so what I decided to do was disconnect all of the module boards and leave the main board in place, then I routed as many of the cables I could fit without over stuffing the channels through the TALL PINS that connect the main board to the various modules. This saved me a ton of space in the shell toward the antenna which is mounted above the boards and made reassembly a breeze as the wires are securely held in place when you reattach the modules to the main board.
I wish I had a picture but I can't seem to find one for some reason, I could have sworn I had taken some but I guess not.
Good Luck!
Correct Matt, SAW no cruise, EOB has the cruise. EOB requires the tach sensor and tape to operate.
Yeah the Atlas O Dash 8 wide cab's didn't have EOB for a pretty long time. But they do have alternating LED ditch lights and an auto dimming headlight. And certain models have classification lights, mainly the Amtrak models.
I don't have the tape but I have the sensor. I do have gen 1 saw boards out of 3rd rail steamers but I'm not sure they'll work here. sorry, I should have looked at it a little closer. I'm not always the best at paying attention to these things. They're like ducks to me, they all have wings, webbed feet and quack, they're ducks. Ill have to dig deeper and see if I have that exact board
Tach tapes are easy to print, no problem there.
That would be a nice upgrade. I’ve never been sorry I hade cruise control on my locos.

True, but I mainly want the original board because the lighting is so awesome. If I put the TAS board in; I'd loose the auto dimming headlight, the oscillating ditch lights, and the classification lights.
Let's wait on a response from Atlas service, they might still have a few SAW GEN2 boards in their warehouse.
Atlas doesn’t have that board

Okay, then in that case. What I can do is take out the good SAW board from my BNSF Dash 8 and put it in my Amtrak Dash 8. Then put the TAS board in my BNSF Dash 8, so it will run better.
Im not even sure you will lose those lighting functions. The EOB board has more functionality than the saw boards. Im pretty sure it has ditch lights and the connectors should all be the same
Actually, the EOB board does not have ditch lights and the like.
TAS had the TAS AD20B (691-PCB1-012) Oscillating Ditch Light Board that offered an add-on for ditch lights.
Note that all this documentation has been posted by me in the documentation thread here in the Legacy/TMCC forum documentation thread.

When I was fixing the SD60M this very diagram SAVED MY LIFE, or rather my engines life lol you are tons of help John.
All of the outputs are printed right on the EOB board. I was being lazy and didn’t feel like doing the research or looking at the board before I guessed if it had ditch lights
At this point it might make more sense to rip out the old electronics and convert the model to Protosound 3. That way it will retain a lot of the lighting functions, have a much more realistic sound system, and have speed control.
But after looking at the model, the speaker and the couplers are a bit of a problem area. But in theory, they might work if they are the same resistance as the MTH parts.
There is one video online of an Atlas O Amtrak Dash 8 converted to Protosound 2. So that's some reassurance I guess...
Many SAW (Sunset, Atlas, Weaver) Gen 2 boards were replaced by the more robust EOB Boards. Prone to failure, the next generation of upgrade boards had 8 amp trace capacity, a huge model electronic improvement. IMO. Ditch lights and marker lights could be powered independent of the control board This Atlas model came back from Weaver with an EOB upgrade, we wired the ditch/markers with some resistors to track power. They do not flash or sequence.
Atlas engine are packed really tight. I have upgraded several Diesels to PS-2 3V. The lighting LEDs usually involved some separate boards that fed off the R2LC HL and RL feature, with added diodes and such. Plus the typical Track power fed stuff.
I have a few TAS SAW Ver 2.0 boards from Atlas SD models. Probably has all the wiring and stuff too. Maybe even the light boards. My e-mail is in my profile if your interested. G
