looking for info prewar Lionel-Ives transition piece

Recently acquired this at a local Greenberg show, and cannot find any information online or in books on what it was for. It is constructed of a heavy cardboard material and measures 28 1/2 inches both ways with both halves put together. Thanks for any help.
