Looking for a part no longer available from Lionel. Engine no 162 Lionel 6-38231. part I am looking for I a gear shaft assembly 6308502078 plastic gear on rear truck gone. barely used eng in great condition. What can I expect from a China built. Even MPC is probably better. Thank you Roy Just my opinion

I've never seen a China truck block use plastic gear
. If you are unable to find parts, consider using a truck from Williams or Railking.

The 2328-78 looks similar, but the outside gear appears larger at 17mm. Can you measure the gear on the other truck?
John, the gear is the problem, its missing. Looking at the front truck it appears half the size of the pictured one you show. Thanks so much. I believe it is a 2011 engine
All of you people that answered. Thank you. This engine has two drive trucks. changing one to something else would probably cause gear ratio speeds between trucks. As for plastic gears Lionel has used them in applications for years. The gentleman who gave me Lionels parts web the answer this is a FT and looked up parts list, for me as usual. Not available, that's the reason I searched here. Must be a common problem that it is no longer offered. Hope somebody would have a parts unit or nos. This one may end up a parts unit. It is like new. Parts list truck with magnet. check it out this has magnatraction and rubber tires on two wheels on each truck. again thank you Roy
That gear would be a great part for someone with a 3D printer to make. There are a lot of early FT diesels that are going to need that smaller gear, looks more like a sprocket gear.

Call Mike Regan at TW Trainworx and see if he has a work around on this part. He is an excellent source for repairs.

Chuck I am so grateful I have a 2016 Lion chief plus with same gear set up. I looked on Lionel and it is not available for even a 2016 model. I got away from MTH because of parts only to start all over again. Respectfully Roy
