Here's a sampling of Pennsy motive power in action.
Weaver C1 0-8-0 at the yard office waiting for assignment. I added a Cruise Commander, magnets on a drive wheel for 4 chuffs per driver revolution, short Atlas electrocouplers front and rear and a weathering job. On the adjacent track are an MTH N5c porthole cabin car and a Brass Works ND bobber.
Here's a coal drag of mostly Weaver 2-bay ribbed hoppers with double-headed Weaver H10s 2-8-0's in the lead. These locomotives have been converted to TMCC with an electrocoupler on the tender and a dummy coupler on the pilot. I also installed 24-volt Pittman motors so that they run at coal drag speeds (they max out at about 40 scale mph). They have been weathered and the front boiler number plates have been painted the correct black color. For some reason, Weaver, Williams and even the 3rd Rail decapods have this plate painted tuscan red. All round freight locomotive number plates should be black.
Two 3rd Rail locomotives are shown here. An N1s 2-10-2 is on the right and an I1s 2-10-0 is on the left. The N1s has been weathered, has TMCC and Railsounds (4 chuffs) installed and has been modified so its gear ratio matches the I1s. The belt drive system that 3rd Rail uses makes it easy to change gear ratios. The decapod has been weathered, TMCC and 4-chuff Railsounds have been installed, and an operating electrocoupler has been added to the tender and to the front of the locomotive since it is used in pusher service. In addition to painting the number plate black, the smokebox was repainted dark graphite and the high bell bracket that 3rd Rail used was removed with a Dremel and a low Pennsy bell and bracket from Precision Scale was installed.
A K-Line B6sb 0-6-0 works the yard. This loco has a Cruise Commander M, has been upgraded to 4 chuffs and has added wiring so that all 4 pickup rollers supply power to the motor driver boards. It is stall-proof.
A 3rd Rail N1s 2-10-2 is leaving the yard while a Lionel Y-3 (PRR class HH1) 2-8-8-2 with a coal drag passes overhead. The Lionel loco now has a Cruise Commander M, 4 chuffs and is weathered. Special thanks to Jon Z for spending about 45 minutes on the phone with me getting the Cruise M to work with the wireless tether on this locomotive.
A peek inside the diesel engine house shows the nose of an MTH transfer diesel (PRR class LS-25) on the left and a Fairbanks-Morse H10-44 (PRR class FS10) on the right. Both of these have been upgraded to TMCC and Railsounds.
An MTH F-3 (PRR class EF15) is at the diesel house. This former Proto-1 loco now has TMCC/Railsounds, Cal Scale rooftop antennas, nose lift rings and has been weathered.
A set of MTH Centipedes (PRR class BP60) drifts through town with a passenger train. These also have been upgraded with TMCC/Railsounds and light weathering (Pennsy passenger locomotives made regular trips through the wash racks in the 50's).
A pair of well-weathered Atlas RS-1's (PRR class AS10am) lead a freight manifest. These locos share a single Cruise Commander to run all 4 motors, as do the F-3's and the Centipedes. Miniatronics miniature plugs carry power from the Cruise Commander to the trailing unit.
