Looking for some ideas for the mid-way

I have used the same stuff but the smaller pebble.  I just hit it with the heat gun and it's a done deal.  Once flat, it stays that way.  Do not overheat or you can warp it.    JP

The smaller one you see was rolled and I was able3 to flatten it.  I don’t have a heat gun.

I picked one up from harbor freight years ago. From shrink wrap tubing, to bending plastic trucks slightly to free up binding wheels, to loosening adhesives. There are lots of uses for a $13 tool.

If it was plain plywood I'd suggest rubber cement. The kind you apply to both surfaces, let dry, then stick together, but not sure how it'd work with carpet.
