For less than two hours total travel time (according to Google maps) you can take I-79 south to Hobby Express in Cranberry, north to C T McCormick in Zelienople, then northwest to The Underground Railroad Shoppe  (https://www.undergroundrrshop.com/) in New Castle; then I-376 W (travel direction is north) to I-80 at West Middlesex.

Good luck & happy trails in whatever routes you take!

At the western end of I-80 in PA,there is a rather large lawn/garden store called Kraynak's.  I have not visited that store for a number of years, but at one time they had a rather large selection of trains for sale.  I never bought anything from them but my wife tells me that they have been around forever, since she was little.  Too bad that Dave M's shop closed.  It was just a hop, skip and jump from I-80 in Mercer.

That was a great store.

I don't know how far you are willing to go off of I80, but CT McCormick Hardware in Zelienople, PA is about 35 minutes down I79 from the I79/I80 interchange, and Hobby Express in Cranberry, PA is, according to Google Maps, a little over 40 minutes down I79.  Both are relatively close to I79.

I second Andy's suggestion.  These are the two shops I use.
