I have an MTH Railking Imperial Pennsylvania K-4 locomotive and for a while I have had a small problem, the eccentric rod or the hex screw on the fireman's side comes loose when the locomotive is operating. Yes I have tightened it but after a while it comes off again. Does it need a new screw? loc tite?

Get some blue loctitie, clean the hex screw and mate threads with acetone. Apply loctite to threads, tighten, done.
One question, are you using a correct size metric wrench/nut driver and/or correct sized hollow grounded screwdriver/bit(like used in gunsmithing)? I ask because from the picture it looks like the hex-screw has rounded corners.

Yes I do, I purchased this locomotive used and it was like that.

I've got a Rail King Big Boy in for repair and the same thing is happening.

I've had these screws work free on a number of steamers, the Loctite on the screw is the answer.
DRJ, how hard is it to break the loctite free when the day comes that disassembly is required?
You want to use the purple or blue, not the red. I use the purple which is the lightest hold, and it's never let me down.
