I have an MTH GE dash 8 G scale locomotive. Yesterday I noticed two loose wires hanging from one of the trucks - looks like they are insulated with the tips bare. I found a plastic type sleeve on the floor - don't know if it's related to the bare wires? I thought maybe an antenna of some type - I couldn't tell if the truck was powered or not as the locomotive was moving around my track OK. The wires are hanging down at the rear of the locomotive - any idea what they are for?

If the wheels of a powered truck is turning, it is probabaly getting power and the motor turning, It is possible to have gearing that will allow wheels to turn the gear train and motor, but I am pretty MHT never had that.
Is the Proto-coupler working? If not, it's likely where those wires came from. if not that maybe the rear lighting.....headlights, class lights.
I’d find out what they are, or post up a picture before running it again....something might go poof if activated......Pat
Took a deeper look tonite. It’s coupler wires. I guess when I changed the e type coupler that the loco came with and used the spring loaded hook type coupler I didn’t terminate those wires. So it should run fine. My concern initially was the bogie wasn’t powered. Thanks for the comments.

Just a suggestion, I’d put some heat shrink over those wires, or insulate them some kinda way....so they don’t accidentally short out......Pat
