A couple of my friends and I were talking about the updates we have done to our Lionel Steamers from the late 80' and early 90's. T-1s, Northern 4-8-4's etc. One of the guys stated that after he installed TMCC and RS4 into one of his locos, the pulling power was not as great as it was before the upgrade. He was talking about his NP Northern from 1993. A few guys laughed and said yeah right, but I am wondering if its true. I have updated my T1's, the Rock Island, NP, and Lackawanna Northerns and they still run the same and have excellent power. But when I installed RS and TMCC in my SP Daylight Gs2 from 1992, I have noticed that the engine which once could pull all 8 aluminum cars now struggles with its 5 Madison cars that were released a year later. Could it have to do with the TMCC electronics? I checked the motor and connections on my engine, and they are fine. I just dont understand how we lost pulling power. The motors have great brushes, gears are greased and wheels and axles lubed with oil,
I am curious to see if any fellow modelers have experienced this or might have an idea what can cause this loss of pulling power.....
