Use a small flat blade and pry the cover up. It’s a friction fit. After you’ve serviced the gears, set the cover back in place, and give it a couple light taps in the middle to re-seat it,…..I see you have the motor mount screws out, be careful, sometimes there’s selective shims packed under the motor, usually on the locator pins. Be sure these go back where they were if so equipped. That small hole in the middle, on the shaft housing, between the two motor mount screw holes, is an oiling hole for the shaft.

Is this the silver plate that’s referred to? If it is how do you pop it without damaging it?IMG_2193

Bob follow harmonyards and you will be squared away, I took my PW berk and I degrease the age old grease, I have a very small screwdriver and pry off, also next time you're out pick up a cheap dental pick set to get that old harden grease out it also will help with removing items also. Mark, I have a full dentists set from my retired dentist friend 😎.

Mark and @harmonyards, the picture does not show it; but at both ends of the plate there are small black  ends sticking up that are slightly crimped. Do I pry from the sides or the ends?
