I noticed that Lionel's instructions indicate to lubricate axel bushings (which are on the inside of the wheels next to the frame) as well as the outside connecting rods on steam engines, while MTH's instructions only point to the outside of the drivers at the axel nuts and connecting rods. Is this an oversight on MTH's part - or would lubrication on the outside points eventually work its way to the axel bushings?
I've been operating steam engines for many years and always have lubricated both the inside and outside, albeit lightly. I hope I've been right in doing this.
