Hello all,

I have a Lionel Hogwarts express with a Electric Railroad Company sound commander installed, but the speaker included with it is too weak. It is in a enclosure, but does not make a big difference. This does not include any volume knob, and gets dwarfed by any MTH or Lionel engine easily. Any thoughts on how to make it louder? I can post pictures if needed.

I'm not much of a electronics wizard, so I do not know much.

Sound volume maximums are all over the place I find. Some really put out like the K-Line TMCC engines. Others you can hardly hear and there is everything in between.

I don't think it is the speaker in your case rather the sound board driving it.

I wonder if anyone sells something that would increase output wattage.

There are some kits out there on the web that might work.

I wonder if there is enough room in the Legacy K4 tender for this amp. I know it won't fit in my U-boat even if I could get the top off.

I have tried the jumper. It barely made any difference. My Hogwarts has yet to have TMCC installed, so it is just conventional.

Here is a picture of the speaker. So to answer your question, Yes.

  Hello Tomix,

I would strongly recommend taking the the speaker baffle off and filling/sealing it in with silicone sealant. I've had great success using this method. Be sure to put tape over the holes around the back of the speaker so as not to impede the cone.

You should have a significant volume increase, and have to lower it a bit giving you less static as a side bonus.
