I posted this a couple of days ago in the forum name “But Anything Cool lately” and stated when I was done I would post it in the Tinplate forum section.
Purchase a 2560 Lionel Crane and a Lionel Prewar #831.
Both are in fair condition and both flat car sections have the same length.
Since I like the prewar 4 wheel cars I needed a crane for my 902 gondola.
So I took the crane off the postwar flat and drilling out a hole (dead center) in the prewar 831(same size as the hole in the 2560 flat car) flat car then to mount the crane on that flat.
Did not want to do a repaint as the paint the crane car is good, just has play wear and some chips and the same goes for the green 831 flat car.
Now for the purist, the crane was not modified at all and I will keep the Postwar 2560 flat just in case I ever want to reassemble the original 2560 Crane car. The hole in the #831 flat car can always be covered with the wood load.
I think it looks good, did anyone else ever do this?
