Sometimes our O scale model trains are very well done......nothing to improve. My MTH PRR 2-10-4 loco is one......but at $1000 it should be. But there are plenty of much less costly trains out there.....but many of them need some help to make them better. Often it's just a few small things. This is a pre-Bachmann Williams SD45 in Burlington CB&Q paint. Far from perfect.....but available for under $100 if you look a little.......worth the time and effort to improve it.

Not a lot of things WRONG......but plenty of room to make things better.

Many of the Williams locomotives decoration was simplified. This CB&Q is one of them. The 'cat whiskers' both front and back are missing.  The Burligton Route logos on the cab sides are a bit small and kinda 'muddy' or blured some. These did not have glass in the cab windows and a body brace runs through the window area on each side that really looks odd!! So I plan on fixing a few of these things and add some detail paint and weathering.

Thanks

OK....This one is finished!!! Nothing ground breaking here.....just some simple things done to a $75 locomotive to upgrade it a little.

Williams sometimes simplified decoration really bugs me....but for a bargain price worth correcting. I bought a set of Microscale CB&Q decals thinking there was two sets of cat whiskers included....but there was only one set....so I used the Microscale set to make some myself.....as backup and keep the set intact. And as stated the 'Burlington Route' logo was small and muddy looking so I generated new ones. Added the 'SD45' emblems and a few other small details. "Glass" via sheet plastic added to cab. Also painted the inside of the cab black to hide some of the odd bracing.

It still needs a dull coat and horns....but the horns are ordered.....dull coat after decals set a few days.

From this.....

To this....was worth the small effort to me.....
