I have been trying to figure out if it is possible to make a MTH Proto 1 articulated engine into an unpowered dummy but keep the sounds working.  Seems those really nice engines that MTH offered in the 1990s have become so "undesirable" in terms of salability that double hearing a command control cab forward with aa unpowered one would look awesome, especially if the old chuff sound and smoke could retained and be very inexpensive.

Has anyone done this and if so how?

thanks,

Don

I thought with Proto 1 the chuff rate was voltage dependent, so it should work.

Edit: With command control it will be getting 18 volts full time, so it's going to be sounding like it's at full speed at all times. Unless you have a way of hooking up the sound board to the motors of the command control unit.

This sounds like a Gunrunner John project
