Maybe he was deaf and facing away from the train & never heard it

Several years a go we were at Tehachapi shooting some film (before the rail fan keep out fence was installed) and had our backs to an approaching downhill train.  The newer powered units even in dynamic were so quiet we did NOT hear them, we felt them and then turned around to get a good shot but . . . Scared the heck out of us!   Russ

And maybe the sun was in his eyes and he didn't notice that No Trespassing sign. Or maybe the sign wasn't bi-lingual..... or maybe if a frog had wings, he wouldn't bust his can every time he jumped.

At less than 100 yards you might not feel or hear the train, even an old F or Alco moving "city slow" sneaking up on you while walking the tracks. Your feet moving, you wont feel a thing. A five mile view over the shoulder means nothing. But at that less than 100 yard distance, and dead ahead, the horn will ensure a boy will never make the mistake again

I can still hear it. (..shudder)

My deaf VW bug pal might have felt it. He notices things in car engines I can't. And I'm no slouch.

"Darwin Award" ...lol. I heard that on a radio station in Pa. and didn't want to leave. Had to pull over to LMAO safely.
