somebody split this set up and made a lot of money this weekend. All 8 passenger cars 246-253 and the loco and tender, close to $1000.00 buy selling one at a time. Most of the passenger cars were in excellent shape too.

Good grief, Charlie Brown!
Sounds like the smart way to do it. Probably a lot of people out there missing one or two of these cars to complete their set. Selling them separately allowed collectors to buy just the ones they wanted. Seems like win-win all around.
We don't know how much money he made because we don't know what he paid for it all.
Over a hundred per car if very nice was normal a while back, maybe a return in values?
A boxed set only came with 5 cars even though they made 8 names/numbers. I bought 2 complete sets, but still was missing one car. Some on the Marx forum may remember my "Searching for Quebec" posts from a few years ago. Took a long time to nail down that last car.

That last one is the hardest one not to overpay for! When it takes years to find it, comes a point when you'd be willing to pay almost anything for it.

I was watching those CP cars with interest too! I figured they'd bring over a hundred each, but wow! I'm still looking for a couple of Bunny Bread cars too! Missed a couple on e-bay the past year or so. I think you're right Jim O'C - patience is the key- so, ya wanna to part with those Bunny Bread cars? ;-)
