I recently had the chance to obtain some Marx trains and accessories in better condition than I'd seen in quite a while. Many of them had original boxes.

The first item is a "Grand Central Station" from the 1930s, I believe. I had never seen the original box before finding this one.

There is something about the artistry of that old lithography and the amount of detail on both the building and the base.

The second is a Marx Roadside Rest service station. While a little large for an O gauge Marx train layout, the detailed lithography is impressive. There are a few different variations of this toy, one with a very hard to find moveable oil rack. I'll have to find an auto of the correct vintage for the operating lift. The one in the photo is 1:43 and a little too small.

Although the bulbs on the pumps seem to be of the correct vintage, Marx supplied light bulbs of a rectangular shape lettered "Gas" on some (most?) of the service stations. I'm not sure if this one had them.

Me too, Pappy!

I've been known to go off on these collecting tangents once in a while. But, I'm just a sucker for old things in much better than average condition.

I wish I'd had some of these items when I did my article on integrating a "tinplate corner" into my hi-rail layout. That should be in an upcoming issue of OGR, maybe this spring.

I'll get some more photos up later today.
