I've always like Marx and was wondering if it tracks well on modern track?

Runs fine on any track- until you hit a switch. There lies the issue- switches- only non scale looking tubular style switches made with wide wheel flange and gear for most MARX.
See the center section that turns allowing for very wide wheel flanges and gears.
Where if you hit a more scale type switch- example an Atlas, the guard rails and other detail will launch that Marx right into the air and derail.
FWIW, this is actually true also of pre-war stuff like O scale American flyer.

Thank you.
Basically, run them on a loop with no switches.
Our club, we specifically setup a few tracks for members with no switches just a big loop so that you can run "anything"- Marx, pre-war, American Flyer, and anything else O gauge 3 Rail.
