I have been making sides for Marx boxcars and passenger cars for several years now. I’ll supply my email address to anyone who would like to contact me.

I can do custom sides on request. I just finished some for one of my railroad friends.  The C&EI Whippoorwill sides represent the entire set for that train, excluding the locomotive. I also have sides for New York Central-lightning striped and stainless, Monon-both paint schemes, NKP, WAB, B&O, plus a complete set of cars for my home road, The Big Fork & Diehle. I’ll try to post them sometime soon. I think you all will enjoy them.

That sounds awesome! How do you make them?

A whole lot of time on Photoshop. I print them with an Epson 825 photo printer. I have several templates that I have created over the years. I still tweak them from time to time. I work from photos and occasionally from plans I find. I DO NOT just copy the art I find. I usually have to reset and/or spend a LOT of time cleaning images from photos.

I didn’t mention that I have also made wraps for 6”Marx passenger cars. So far just Monon in both schemes. I have also made sides for the Monon F units to go with them. I am rather proud of that one.  It does look pretty!

Also, I have made a gondola conversion but it requires a lot of work finish. Each panel between the uprights has to be cut and taped. It is terribly tedious work but the results are worth it.

Faux has been out of business for quite a few years, but I only recall their inventory was more towards 6-inch freights. You still see a few of his items come u occasionally but they are already installed. There is one vendor in the UK who offers Hornby covers though.

Who is the Hornby vendor

Mr Cat, aka Brian Wright has retired, he must be in his late 80s now. Not sure he would appreciate his contact details being broadcast in a public place such as this. There is another source of overlays in the UK for Hornby, Bassett Lowke, Leeds, etc. If you want contact details, message me.

Cheers, Mark.

His contact information is still listed on the links page of Hornby HRCA website. Did not know he was retired.

The other contact I knew of was Laurence Hog Productions but I understand he has recently passed away.

The one person I know of in the UK still doing overlays is Bruce Palmer, don't know if his details are on the HRCA website, but they will be in the HRCA spares directory. If you need his contact details, message me.

Cheers, Mark.
