guys, I have a temporary layout now, but I still wanted to Hide the underside and stuff because its in my living room. any ideas on what would be relatively cheap, like yards of plain tan material ( a drape) I could maybe make pleats and staple to sides.

If you have a Hobby Lobby near go to there web site and print off a 50% or 40% off coupon they always have these availible and use it to get some fabric thats what I did for my temporary layout and it looks good eh.
Some folks use the black sheets of landscape material you can get at your big box home improvent stores. Cheap, easy to work with, and looks decent.
Depends on how tall you need it, you can find the pre-fab tables skirts on ebay. I got one for my switching layout for $20, fully pleated with velcro. The only problem is they are max 30" tall.

We have always used the traditional Green Felt in the living room at Christmas time, my wife purchases the felt at the sewing store. Back when I was a young boy, my Grandfather used the paper that had the brick design on it, for us kids.
