Just got back from the engine house again. They still have some work to do so it will be another diesel run tonight. Maybe tomorrow #3 will run. Also there is a tiny chance they can get the right of way back. They are at least talking again. Will keep you posted. Don
What l discovered to eat on Kauai was Lappert's ice cream, considered one of world's best...tasty good! There is one in San Francisco, too,but lousy parking. Elsewhere?? If you drive down through lower P. Mich., multiple Kilwin's are maybe closer, and at other scattered U.S. locations. Wuss luck, the Gettysburg PA. one has been closed the last two York's ..they need a new franchisee.
Gourmet ice cream and a historic sugar cane railroad - sounds like a wonderful combination! ☺
When I road it in 2009 it was steam. My son was 3 and still loves and remembers it, was disappointed to hear this. We had an awesome conductor who went by the name Uncle Terry and talked with us the whole time, sharing Hawaiian history, and interacting with the kids.

Too bad they don't mention that Jerry Best owned the engine, did the restoration, and donated it to the Smithsonian.
