Got there TOO LATE to take a picture of the American Flyer Standard Gauge MAYFLOWER SPECIAL that was perhaps REPLATED. There was a split opinion from knowledgeable bidders as to original plating. A phone bidder BID $58 Thousand plus 10%, and MAURER's IMMEDIATELY locked the train in acabinet before I arrived. This is all I got in TWO days...$425 plus 10%...ALL ORIGINAL 392E!!!

At THOSE prices, I am glad to be an operator of mostly repros, and not a COLLECTOR!

Amen Brother, Amen.

I was there on Friday and witnessed the entertainment provided by the bidding on the A.F. Mayflower set and the same phone bidder bought many other things too. That was a good buy on the Lionel 392E. After losing out on the apple green Lionel 408E set, I came away with a very nice A.F. Potomac O gauge set which makes an interesting contrast to my standard gauge Pocahontas set looking very much like it's smaller brother.

When the Flyer Circus set comes up April 13th the 58K will look like chump change.
Can be seen in the eighth pic above.

As always, thank you for taking the time to take pictures and share them with the rest of us. The 3243R S-motor is fabulous.
Thanks again,
Bob
Ron, that's a great looking engine for a very decent price. Thanks for posting.
