The 3 pictures are of the interior of a McKeen rail motor car.  The porthole shape windows were used because they are the best shape structurally.  The car body construction is semi-monocoque (stiffened stressed skin), similar to an airliner fuselage.  This car was built in 1911.  It is the original car that was used on the Virginia and Truckee Railroad in days past.  The interior and exterior have been authentically restored, but the engine and transmission are modern.  This McKeen is at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City.

There was a program on just the other night and this restoration was covered in it.  Really an amazing story, the car body was being used as an office for a local plumbing company.  One of the hurdles they faced was how the interior paneling was finished, then they found an original section hidden within the walls that was in pristine condition, as well as the original whistle that was found in a tool box in the nose.....very interesting.
