The Meadville Railroad Depot at 136 Mead Ave in Meadville, PA.

What is it? The reviews seem to suggest it's a museum-model railroad-hobby shop but I can't tell exactly. Some of my favorite rye whiskey is sold in Meadville so I'm planning to make the trip at some point. Does anybody know what the deal is with this place?

Yes, it is the B&LE freight station built in the 1890s, and is now a railroad museum, rather than a parking lot.

The building which was formerly a Farm and Garden store (which went out of business), was purchased and has been restored by the French Creek Valley Railway Historical Society.

Thanks to great local support,  hundreds of volunteer hours, and substantial financial donations;  it  has been saved for posterity as a railroad museum and meeting facility.

Come visit us!

Interesting area, Meadville is home of an internationally known tool company.  Also note: You are very close to the Pymatuning Reservoir. The spill-way, at the lake, is known for the birds walking, on the fish.  At one time home to one of the largest bald eagle populations in Pennsylvania.  Also in the area Conneaut Lake.  At one time, before all the mega-play grounds, Conneaut Park, was the amusement park of choice, Western Pa.  IMO, Mike CT.   Enjoy your trip.

Here is the info on the Meadville train depot & museum.  Copied from their flyer, I got this info for this weekend...
The French Creek Valley Railroad Historical Society will host the 2nd Annual Meadville Railroad Depot Craft Show and Sale.  One day only Saturday, July 15 from 10 am to 4 pm.  Author Ken Springirth will sign his books. Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, and Soda Pop will be available.  Admission is free. Donations graciously accepted.
They have a six-axle locomotive coming in (the gentleman I was talking to did not know what it is).  They purchased it but they are not sure when it can be delivered as the switch needs to be installed to bring it in near the station.

The depot has been restored and looks great.  Down the street is a small park where they have an SW2 (no prime mover), a boxcar, a caboose, & a snowplow.  I've included just a few pictures that I took.   I did not edit or crop my pictures yet nor did I post my best shots.  I want you to enjoy the experience without all of it already posted for you to see.  Then you can take your own pictures.
You should enjoy it if you go, but go early.
Dennis.

I did mention to two people about the website being out of date & the last info posted was for 2022.  I was told the person that is supposed to do it is sick right now.  It would have been great if this event was posted this year on their site.
