Hey all, Just a quick question about megasteam smoke.
Can this be used in any smoke unit? I use it in my modern stuff but my brother wants to know if he can use it in his late 80's/early 90's 027 Lionel Blue Comet.
Also, I have a collection of Mega stream that has got a fair amount of years on it, maybe 8 or so. The fluid itself has all seemed to turn a darker shade. Beer colored I'd say. Haha! Is this normal? Is it ok to use still?

Do a search on the Forum. There's tons of topics on the subject with people who say it can be used with any unit and others that don't recommend it. It just ends up in a big nasty debate usually....
As far as age and if it's okay to use... I would not know and I doubt anyone except the manufacturers could answer that.
To clarify I'm not talking about postwar stuff that took pills. This loco is meant to run liquid. Just wondering if Megasteam is as safe as the lionel stuff.
I run it in all my Lionel stuff, including the Vision Line and down. No problems in years of running.
I haven't had any problems. Isn't smoke fluid just mineral oil?

I run it in all my Lionel & MTH stuff, liquid & pellet types. No problems in years of running. The older fluid may not have as strong a scent as new, but it works fine.
I use it as well no problems yet!!!
I use it in everything, O 3 rail and O 2 rail, now using it in HO. Some of my bottles are 4-5 years old, beer color and had no problems.
I use it in all my smoke-equipped locomotives, from postwar to modern. I can't imagine what would be risky about it.
