There is no easy way to adjust volume level on Mel's.
The internal speaker is wired directly to the circuit board. I guess you could cut potentiometer into the speaker feed, but this would only allow you to reduce the volume below existing level, not increase it.
I hooked up an external speaker to my Mel's, a small Radio Shack speaker in a cast alumiinum enclosure and it sounds pretty good. The built in amp has no trouble driving the speaker. The impedance matched the original speaker.
Disassembling Mel's is not for the faint of heart. There are lots of screws, micro switches gears, etc., etc.
Thanks Pat......I didn't see any "simple" way, like a volume control on the unit, but I just wondered if I had missed something. On my unit, the volume is a little high, and I would have liked to turn it down a bit. Electrical not being my strong suit, I'll live with it.
Thanks for responding.

There is a way to do this follow this thread https://ogrforum.com/d...ent/2415514336974809
or contact forum member Dick Richard. We have Mel's on our modular layout and the volume was driving everyone crazy Dick put a volume control on it and that did the trick. Good luck.
Dennis,
That really didn't clearly describe how it was done.
I don't object to the volume of the Mel's diner, but that is one LONG operating session per button push.
We had the car wash on the public layout at the mall some years ago. Kids would poush the button, then walk away before the action sequence started. The operators got to "enjoy" the dialog about 50 times a day. We finally disconnected it.
Mels Diner. The car wash. The fire station. The gas station. McDonald's All big chunks of real estate that could be better used on my layout. They were great at first but you do become tired of them after a while. They are more of a novilty item if anything.
Which still doesn't clearly describe how to install a volume control.
