Tonight was charging the battery in a PS1 engine by placing the engine on a section of test track on my workbench. Powered up the transformer and let it sit. Checked it after 3 hours and the top of the engine shell was warm. Opened it up to find the battery was very hot and it's case had started to melt. Put a BRC in the engine and it ran fine. I've charged many PS1 engines like this and have never seen this happen.

Anybody else experience this or know what happened. The only thing I could think of was that the battery when bad from sitting, possible short inside, and when I went to charge it just kept shorting.
