Well it's only April 2nd. but it feels like Christmas today. Along with my MTH Cab Forward my hobby shop from Menard's also arrived. When I 1st. picked it up I heard a rattle. (Not a sound you want to hear) The boxes, as you can see was damaged, but the only thing wrong was the electric box had come loose. I glued it back on & everything works fine. I originally was going to place it length wise but I think it will look better width wise. What do you think?

Menards will probably be disappointed, but I think all of us are going to put the side with that wonderful picture of Jack in back where no one will ever see him,  but that long side with the windows is just fantastic.  I want to put mine where one can look in the shorter front side though, because the interior is impressive to view - very "3-D"

I wasn't even looking for something like this, Until I saw Lee's, and your post on this building. The flashing signs did it for me. And It is orientated the right way to finish out the end of the block on the front of my layout. I had just found a deal and popped too much, (although way below average cost) for Lionel's hobby shop. But it's just cool and will fit. So the other day I ordered one from Manards, also found a nice quonset hut. Already shipped and on their way. I wondered how many extra Hobby Shops Menards sold just from these posts. I have seen several comment after Lee's review that bought or were going to buy this item. And at 69.00 I believe it's a good buy. Most of the W.S. built up are in the 100.00 + range. Can't wait for the postman to show up with mine.

Spence,

Thanks for your initial evaluation.  That is what sold me!

My Menard's Hobby Shop arrived today.  Boy is it a beauty!  My wife was impressed as well.  I am especially impresed considering the very reasonable price.  For what you get it is an outstanding value.  Oh, also, there was no damage whatsoever.  Here's a few pictures on my Trial & Error RR.

Oh, oh, one more thing;  I am going to have to paint the blond boy's legs.  I never wore shorts as a boy, and don't now.  ;-)

Ok, I joined in on the fun...  I received the Hobby Shop and the Woodland Scenic Emporium. The interesting thing is they both arrived in the exact same type of dome plastic packaging and some of the details are exactly the same. Another factoid to suggest they are made by the same company. Of course - "Made in China".

I do like them very much. I wish Menards had put a light in the second floor.  I'm going to explore how to add that feature.

I will enjoy the Hobby Shop Spence. It is nicely detailed and I really like the inside details. It is an eye catcher and everyone who sees it ooohhhs and awwweees a lot. The building mates well with the Emporium in that they are similar in design so they sit right next to each other. That enhances my village scene greatly.

I agree with your suggestion that they should be powered with our accessory voltage and I would like the second floor lighted.

I have come to believe we will be seeing a lot more DC voltage accessories in the market.  I have 2 Z4000, a KW and an American Flyer 250 watt transformer and I have maxed out my accessory outputs.  So I just bought a 150 watt 12DCv transformer to light my lights.  You can run very low voltage dc lights and get impressive brightness out of them and without maxing your amp draw.

I was a tow head, burn once and I was fine for the rest of the summer!!  But I have three sons that are gingers and they burn all the time!!

Maybe so.  ;-) I never liked them except for swimming, which I never did much of that.  I was always hiking throught the woods, and needed the protection from jagger bushes and such.

Rboatertoo,
i am like your three sons.  Reminds me of an old Fred MacMurray TV show.  ;-)

Anyway, my parents, brother, and sister were all like you.  In fact Dad never even burned.  They never bought sun tan lotion, so I burned if I didn't cover up.  Now I use sun block, but still wear long pants, which takes us back on topic.  I said the boy is me, and he needs long pants!  ;-)

Thanks TNHokie!
Yes, we can sort of get ahead of ourselves in this hobby.  I have a temporary 4x8 layout that I have just populated with dome cheap buildings for the time being.  Last year I bought a friend's Woodland Scenics Ethyl's Service Station, and now the hobby shop.  Right now, it would seem my town would not support a shop like this, but one must keep their priorities straight on urban development.  How many of us would say every crossroads village needs a train shop!
