Back in 1998 MTH catalog this building. However, they never put it into production. I think this would be a good item for you to produce. I believe it would out sell any of the other structures you have produced.

I agree Jim, beautiful model! I would definitely be in for one! How about it Mark?
This set up looks exactly like an local Sinclair station that is just now being dismantled. The only thing I would also like to see is the large Sinclair dinosaur (Dino).
Steve
Yes!
I will take one in Sunoco please

Good Day Jim,
Great suggestion! I'd be a buyer!

Swafford

I still have one of those plastic dinosaurs they used to give out for free.
That photo looks like one, the guy in orange hall sells at York, makes them in many different oil and chemical names.
Jim:
That would be an fairly easy scratch build with plastic. Everything in the picture can be bought from Plastruct.
Joe
I would buy it
Glad to see a lot of you would purchase a structure of this type. I only hope Menard's is reading this and not sitting in the kitchen with a cup of milk and eating sugar cookies.

It's the Midwest. I'd put my bet on Snickerdoodles.
I heard MTH didn't make it cause lost the right to use Sinclair name. Or something like that. I have the gas station and wanted the tow trucks on the flat . They weren't produced either.
You Know Mark from Menards is taking this all in. Yes !!! I do agree, this would fit just perfect on my layout..HINT,HINT,HINT....
Jim ,they may be eating something at Menards, but at this time of year in the retail business, I can practically gaurantee it's not milk they're drinking with it!!!
The guy in the orange hall just makes common brands. I scratchbuilt/kitbashed two, for two defunct regional oil companies, but there were others in the area, and I would lose no time changing whatever signs come on it. That would force me to build more derricks and walking beam pumps for the other end of the line, though. Conoco was probably the best known of those in that region. There are a lot of structures Menard's could offer, mineheads and tipples, that derrick/walking beam complex (tall!), grain elevator, meat packing plant....the list goes on, and, if as artistic and creative as they've been so far, would jump off the shelves.
Yes!

Come on Menards....I'm in for one
Sinclair had a huge refinery along SH 225 along the Houston Ship Channel. Of course MTH imported gas stations for various companies.......
I have seen a layout with 4 MTH stations. Each for a different company.
If MTH had it in the catalog be careful you may wind up in a lawsuit.
"WAS on the Houston Ship Channel"? Has Sinclair disappeared as a brand? It has been a while since I've seen a Sinclair station, and even Sunoco has, I think, disappeared from this area, and I bought gas there for years. And that is not the only brand that has vanished....
Also it will fit real nice with the Black tank cars. please do one of the refineries blue and yellow. Lionel did well with their Sunoco refinery tanks, this would be a perfect match for them and the Single dome all black tank cars.
If you put that together I will vote for you as president instead of TRUMP.
Sinclair is still out there. They opened a new one in San Pedro up the street from AGHR (shameless plug). I had heard that ARCO had taken over the company and was trying to make it disappear. Then ARCO was merged into BP. Don't know who owns the trademark now. That said, I'd love one of those. There was a guy at York selling some smaller refineries in various companies, but the MTH design was perfect. I have the Sinclair gas station and the original SpeeDee Car Wash which matches it's Art Deco style. I also have the Weaver Sinclair tank cars. All I need is a refinery and I'm set.
Sunco is still in the Philly area.
Now I am going back a number of years maybe late 80's or early 90's Sinclair was gone from the Philly area but we were on vacation in the mid west don't know where it was, do remember I think there was a Hallmark Card plant at the exit, there was a Sinclair station up the road. Funny how brands disappear and reappear again. Going Bach about ten years or so there was a Philly brand that had disappeared, reappeared again and now is gone again. Sorry don't remember the brand. There was one Philly brand that was bought out just to make airline fuel, refinery is south of Philly.
I was in okc this past November and a Sinclair gas station was right next door to my training facility.
I would be in for a Texaco version, but I think there are licensing issues with that, too.
I think Menards needs a good connection to their business for a model building and since they sell propane, a bulk propane loading facility would be appropriate.
Here's a link to their propane sales.

Besides not being able to use the Sinclair name, I think the reason MTH never followed through on the structure was it ended up having too many components. Thus causing the cost of building more than they wanted to pay.
It looks a lot like one of Stan's Tanks who sells in the Orange Hall at York.

If Menards does run into a licensing problem, if there is one, they could always make the structure with different color tanks, yellow pipes, and no signage, but signs and you apply your Menards included decals. Better yet make the tall sign one of Miller's revolving lighted signs with a double sided for the building.
I will purchase one.
Lionlman, thanks for coming up with the name of the guy in the Orange Hall who makes these type of tanks - I was trying to think of it. I have a Sunoco tank setup from Stan.
Jim, this is a good idea; these are nice units.

Sunoco still exists. It's the official fuel of Nascar. I not sure of where their stations are located regionally. They may be more prevalent in some areas than others.
We have many Sunoco stations in upstate NY. Since Menards has ties to Nascar, a Sunoco fuel depot seems like a good fit!

Good point. I didn't think of that.

The refinery is still there. But it has no ARCO markings on it.
There are some Sinclair stations somwhere in the Great Plains. But is this a spin off from BP directly, or use of intellectual property.
Chevron owns the names of Texaco and Gulf. Guess we will never be able to purchase Chevron Spray to control ants and roaches. Gulf Spray smelled worse than MARX locomotive smoke! BUT IT WORKED.

Sinclair used to have a mobile display of dinos. It came to Gulfgate Center here in Houston. Got a Dino plastic model from the event.
What specific Plastruct parts are those tanks?
