I picked up the two Menards boxcars that I had ordered thru the website at the local Menards. I must say for $20 these boxcars blow the competition away for bang for the buck. Compared them to a Williams boxcar from about 15 years ago and they are almost identical except for the trucks. The Menards boxcars have diecast sprung trucks. The Wisconsin Central and Northern Pacific are Menards, the AT&SF is from Williams.
So the 64,000 dollar question is how does Menards contracts these boxcars out to a third party for manufacturing and is able to sell them for $20 retail. I would guess that both the manufacture and Menards are both making a couple bucks on them.
