My case arrived Thursday, 5-28.  At first glance, I was apprehensive upon seeing the shipping container.  It was in rough shape, and looked like very inexpensive China cardboard.  When I opened the shipping box, I was surprised to find a nice case containing all twenty-four cars, nicely arranged in three tiers of plastic covers.  These are like the plastic two part covers MPC era Lionel used to house individual cars.  The Menards cars come in four different road names and three colors.  Six cars of each road name.  The couplers have a bit of extra chaff, but I don't expect there will be any difficulty in removing it.

The axels are metal as are the wheels.  The wheels are a bit rough, but adequate for the dollars spent.  Trucks are plastic.  Not much else to report at this time, they seem as though they will roll along easily, and they certainly don't weigh a lot.

So here are the pics I promised.  Hope they are okay.  I am pleased with my purchase, and I don't think I'll be needing any more flats for awhile.  Thanks Menards, keep the good stuff coming.  As soon as I accumulate a sufficient number of rebates, I'll scoot over to Ohio and go on a rebate shopping spree.

Ron:  I run a LOT of auto and truck transport trains.  Since my 1/43 collection continually grows, I can always use more flats.  The auto carrier cars cost way too much, and then I have to deal with the cars that come with them.  Also, the double decker transport cars (MTH) get very top heavy when loaded, so I tend to lean towards the small flats.  They can carry two small cars, or one of the larger (longer) cars, buses or trucks.

So, this is why I actually need lots and lots of flats.  Bob S.

a couple of us here in san diego have gone through 3 cases each of these flat cars!

one thing to watch out for.  the wheels are about 1/16th out of gauge.  get a known good wheel set and check against the menards wheel set and make adjustments accordingly.

here is a thread that has picture on what to do with the couplers.

They have offered boxcars in 6 packs. I bought a set of 6 BN boxcars, all different numbers. They were priced about $2.00 less per boxcar than buying a single.
