Ordered these two new cars last nite. Its nice to see something new coming from Menards. I think these will be sure to be a big hit.

Hoping for single dome plain tank cars next go around for them.
these do have the new trucks and couplers. I haven't had any problems with any of the new style.. Bob
Looks like a dead on copy of Lionel's tooling.

I thought they had. I have one of the newer long flat cars and the trucks seem to be pretty nice. I have had no issues with them. I do have one of the older box cars that required some work.

... or are they a copy of Williams items (yes, which are a copy of Lionel styles).
The reason a say of copy of Williams is because the Menards box car was a near clone of Williams. Seems like Menards is copying Williams items.
The brake wheel post on the tank car is similar to the Williams brake wheel post. The current Lionel tank car of that style doesn't use a post, although the postwar version did. To my eyes, the Menards brake wheel post more closely resembles the Williams post than the postwar Lionel post.

Mine should be here Wed. Or Thursday at the latest. I'll take some detailed pictures and put them on line.Bob
Well regardless of origins, this is a surprise. Normally Mark from Menards posts some sort of teaser. So surprise surprise - no teaser and yet two totally brand new rolling stock offerings from Menards and already listed on their web page. Wow!
I'm not one to join in the discussions over recent pricing in the hobby. And I like Lionel's traditionally sized train cars. But the $50 list for a car with plastic trucks - or $65 and up, for die cast trucks is out of my price range. I know, there's discounts... the $50 car is typically about $36-$38, but that's still too much... and for tooling that has long been paid for. There's plenty of used traditional products out there at much better prices, so that's where I buy.
So to see these new Menards products with a $20 list. Wow. I look forward to seeing more road names on these two item types. Santa Fe is not one of my main roads, but I know many DO like Santa Fe. They are both good looking cars, regardless of prototypical merit, so good job Menards.
I love seeing tank cars, I was wondering when they'd show up.
Congratulations Menards on your new rolling stock! I'll be buying the Santa Fe Coal Hoppers this week.

Swafford
Brainel027....there was a teaser several days ago. This is the only thing that I do not like about the current forum layout design. Post topics often get pushed off the front page fairly quickly if a new post has not been made on it. I think Mark the Menards Guy will continue with the teasers.
Here is the teaser for this one:https://ogrforum.com/topic/01-05-16-o-gauge-release-from-menards?reply=48311781313140441#48311781313140441

Those look great. You're right; I'll bet they will be popular.

The 14" flat cars have different trucks than the 10" cars.

I don't have a basement in CA!!!!
Hard for me to get excited about new freight cars. I own over 300 of them and the layout, the sidings and the yards are loaded. Beyond that I have tons of them in their boxes in storage. I can, and do, run long trains of reefers, hopper cars, covered hoppers, tank cars besides boxcars, galore. I've pretty much cut myself off for new freight cars, unless, of course, I happen to see one that really strikes my fancy. It has to be from the 1950 era, must be a realistic decoration, not somebody's wild idea for what might be, and it must be a car that looks correct to my eye.
I hope that, in spite of my reluctance, Menard's is completely successful with their new offerings. Expect that one day, soon, they'll be offering good quality engines to the market.
