I don’t know if anybody has posted this yet.

Just picked up my new Menards Gas station

I haven’t found Jack the train Dog anywhere on it yet.

Of note,  concerning the lighting it says:

" Easy to light with Power Supply JP5770 purchased at Woodland Scenics or simply attach to a train transformer accessory port  … voltage 16-20 VAC/current 90mA maximum. "

I have not wired it yet,  but looks like they have eliminated the wall wart for this building

But the JP5770 is a wall wart.

Is this the building sold by Woodland Scenics?  I see WS sells a "Menards Gas Station".   The current discussion about wall warts and such is in regards to buildings sold by Menards

I wonder if Menards sells a "Woodland Scenics Gas Station"

Is this a Menards building ??

I ordered the gas station from Menards and picked it up at my Menards store. Its various labels are " Landmark structures," " Woodland Scenics,"" Limited Editions Sequentially Numbered only at Menards "

I can't find a Jack the Train Dog on it, so I guess I would call it a Woodland Scenics sold by Menards.  Mine is number 182 out of 1060.

WOW that is strange.

I found this on the WS site - I assume it's similar to the Woodland Scenics Menards Gas Station sold by Menards.  I think I got the wording right!

Good thing they didn't use the same power connector as their other lighted buildings.  That would have been a disaster!

I suppose the good news is that Menards gets the concept that some guys do not want the clutter of wall warts.

Stan then you reckon my buildings could be 16 to 20 VAC?   Or that just the gas station will be??

Ask Menards, they should know.

I made a few phone calls today.  And got a BUNCH of information that doesn't go along with some factual posts Ive read here.   As far as asking the nice folks at Menards, they say the station and hobby shop that they have there are DC wall wart powered and have a bunch of their building lit up at the store by those "recalled" power packs.   That he had no knowledge of any power packs being recalled or pulled from the shelves.   So I will wait and see what I get.

I have the Menards Hobbt Shop and train station. They both require the DC power adapter. The new gas station is the only Menards building I have that will run off AC

Thanks!   I will see if I can find a way to light it when I get it.  I have a feeling I will get a LOT of Menards buildings!  : )

Hi Everyone,

The Menards Gas Station was built in collaboration Woodland Scenics a few years ago. This building has since been completely sold out. For those of you who are familiar with Woodland Scenics, they have their own "Just Plug" power system and we recommend using the JP5770 to power the Menards Gas Station.

There are threads on the forum for those who choose to light the building by other means but I cannot answer any of the alternative wiring questions. I haven't done any research on the topic.

I think folks are mixing up the Woodland Scenics for Menard's structures with the

Menard's in house brand of structures.

All the Woodland Scenics buildings I've seen do not have a round DC plug.

Both make nice buildings and any light power issues are easily solved either brand.

No I don't think we have them mixed up...  Just some hope that the newer Menards buildings were going to be like the "new/old" Menards gas station that hclark has just bought and picked up at Menards.    They must have found some old stock somewhere.   I really like the Menards buildings.   They are great looking structures at a fair price.  And would love to find one of those gas stations!

Yes, it was old stock. Mark posted in another thread on this topic that Menards collected the gas station buildings still in inventory at individual stores and put them for sale on the website. They sold out in less than a day.

The buildings were made by Woodland Scenics, with a Menards sign added. Menards did the same on other structures, such as Woodland Scenics' Harrison Hardware building that was made with a Menards Hardware sign for sale at Menards.

Though Mark didn't rule it out, Menards hasn't collaborated with Woodland Scenics for several years now and has instead opted to manufacture its own building line.

At the top of this post a member asked about lighting for the Menards gas station that he had purchased. It appears he bought one from Menards.  Lighting is the very least of my concerns.  Are these gas stations still available from Menards?? If no, then where did he buy his from? My question to you Mark??  I live in the deep South without the benefit of your great stores in my region.  How do I search the internet for all of your stores for a single train item?  IMHO, not a way to run a Railroad.

2nd question or problem with Menards.  A long time ago I ordered 6 pieces rolling stock from your firm and it was labeled MENARDS on the units.  I have not ever heard of that Railroad.  My fault and they will go into the sell for very cheap bin at the next show I sell at.

3rd problem  I ordered 3 of your O scale delivery vans on or about Jan 20th 2017.  Hoping to remove the decals and replace them with 1950 era decals.  Menards credited my card for $68.43 including Product, S & H, on Jan 23 2017. Received a msg from Menards a few days later saying they were late shipping my order. Did I still want the order.  I replied YES YES I do.

As of 7:18 PM EST 02/08/2017 I have not received the product from Menards, a shipping date or a simple thank you.

However Mark I do thank you for your follow up

My best regards to you and Menards

Tommy

Menards is a huge company with almost $9 billion with a B in annual sales at over 300 stores. They do an amazing job of inventory management and have the ability to show store stock quantities of items directly on their website and can even tell you the precise location of the item within their store. If you do not see it on their website, they do not have it

Not always. I planned to buy Menards' Maintenance Shed. I checked their website, Cambridge MN store showed ZERO and I ever made a call to that store, she said NOTHING in stock. Next day I went there to get some supplies for my train layout, found there were TWO on shelf and bought one.

I think your first question was thoroughly answered earlier. The gas stations were old stock from several years ago. The lingering few that were still in stores were rounded up and sent back to the Menards warehouse. The stock was listed for sale online. They sold out in less than a day. No one is expecting you to search 300 stores to find an item, though Mark has done so on his end for customers.

Your second point was also clearly obvious. Like the Lionel did with the models that inspired them, Menards puts its "made by" label on many of the cars. Plenty of pictures posted on this forum by Menards and others. It wasn't hidden in any way. So why did you buy them?

Hopefully your order shows up soon. At least there you have a legitimate concern.

Want to see real incompatibility? Go to a job site where there are various brands of battery powered hand tools in use, all sold by the same store!  The Menard's by Woodland Scenics and the Menard's by someone else are different so we just added a power buss strictly for the new plug structures. Troubleshooting is simpler, less things on the circuit. Good luck with your search, if a Menard's Gas Station can't be located you can always track down the WS version.

You guys so know this called model railroading not model box opening. It wasn't that long ago that you had to assemble the building yourself, spec, source wire and install all the lighting yourself and after it was all said and done, you were into it a lot more time and money than you are buying it built in the box. You can please some of the people all of the time or all of the people some of the time. This doesn't seem like an issue with Menard but an issue with people unable to adapt things to their situation

As Jim R. mentioned, we rounded up the remaining Gas Stations from our stores and listed them online. I think we had about 6 units and they were sold out in a couple hours. These Gas Stations are becoming more rare but I occasionally see them pop up on Amazon or eBay. This structure was built by Woodland Scenics and you will notice Ethyl's Gas Station is very similar that structure should be easier to find on the internet.

If you visit our website menards.com/trains, you can see "store availability" for all of our train items. However, in the case of the Gas Station, there are none left at any of our stores.

2nd question or problem with Menards.  A long time ago I ordered 6 pieces rolling stock from your firm and it was labeled MENARDS on the units.  I have not ever heard of that Railroad.  My fault and they will go into the sell for very cheap bin at the next show I sell at.

This is a little more complicated question because there are multiple answers.

If you are referring to the "Built By Menards" decal, Jim R. is spot on with his answer. Much like Lionel puts their brand name on rolling stock, we do also.

However, if you are referring to our older cars (that we no longer sell), yes, we did use the Menards name on the flatcar as a "road name" from 200. If you do in fact have some of these older cars, they are highly sought after and I'm guessing you could get some good money if you advertised them for sale.

Yeah it wasn't long ago that you had to cut down trees and fit logs to build a house. And it wasn't long ago that trains were powered by steam.   It really wasn't that long ago that you had to build a computer to use the newly invented internet.    Nobody said there were any issues.    Yes you should be able to buy a PLUG IN BUILDING and plug it up and it lights up.     No big deal to wait until March to get the proper power source to plug it up.    With that being said I better go hammer out some new hinges for the gate! Whittle me some tooth picks,  and fetch me some water out of the ole well!      : )

To Mark the Train Guy only.

Thank you for your time and effort's to help me find accessories for my O scale layout. You have been very helpful in in both respects.  As you stated above, I did received the package today.  I am very pleased with the delivery vans.  Also Menards was went to great expense to include a 6 wheel cargo van, a 6 wheel cargo van different company and a  18 wheel tractor/trailer rig hauling Air Conditioners.  A very nice touch of customer support.

Thanks again Mark.  I'm signing off of this post, I've had about all I can stand.
