Jim:  If Paradise, Mass. police chief Jesse Stone (portrayed by actor Tom Seleck in the TV series) was an O gauge model railroader, he would have described Menards new Santa Fe "FP7" simply as:  WOW!

An unrelated but important note in these unstable trying time in which we find ourselves:  The Railroad Evangelistic Assn. (www.railhopeamerica.com) is looking for short articals on model railroading to include in All Aboard (the official magazine published three times a year).  If anyone is interested and wants to submit an artical, "how to" information can be found on the last page of each issue under Publication Guidelines.  The REA is a non-profit organization which was founded in 1941 by Atlantic Coast Line Locomotive Engineer Luther S. Harkey.  Be sure to mention O Gauge Railroading magazine in your artical!

The current issue, Summer 2021, as well as many back issues can be read online.  There is never any charge, thus the price is:  FREE!  Check it out.  I believe you'll like what you see.

All Aboard is sent out to REA members plus anyone wishing to receive the magazine and reaches international readers worldwide.  Current REA President David Wiegand is a retired locomotive engineer/conductor and was employed in New Mexico (where he resides) by both Santa Fe and Amtrak.  David models the AT&SF in HO scale.

Godspeed

In 2011, I published a how-to article in which I described a low cost approach to loco control. My premise was that if low cost was the goal, the system should be based on the easily available low cost R/C toy car electronics. I believe that this is the generic approach that Menard's has chosen. I achieved an operating range over 75 feet with my system, which is still fully operational today. A video of it is available in the LCCA on-line videos.
