Bought a few Menards cars. They look nice. 1 weathered, $26, 2 not, $19 each.
The issues.
The trucks do not have anuncoupling lever on the side of the coupler, they can only be uncoupled with an activaton track. Very limiting.
Also the bolsters are held on with a spring clip, which means the WOBBLE factor is guite high. The only way to tighten them up is to use shims.
Also, the spring on the trucks are fake.
I realize these are low end models, but they should be user friendly.
The wheels are metal and very nice, the detail is acceptable, but not enough to outweigh the NEGATIVES.
That flat spring clip has to cost more than a screw.
And there is no excuse for not having an uncoupling lever.
So, I am looking for replacement trucks..with active springs, and the trip lever, to resolve my dilemma. And I can wait for a great deal.
Other than that I am glad to see Menards participation in the Hobby.
And if anyone at Menards sees this, step up your game. You sell everything from womens deodorant to plywood, dog food to roof shingles. You sell many quality items. You have the platform to be the O train consumers Sunday Hobby Store, it is a shame you arent putting your best foot forward.
Imagine, Menards, the MTH, LIONEL Authorized dealer. The WORKSHOPS alone, would be awesome.
