I been thinking of buying some of the Menards Pennsy Hoppers next month and was wondering if they would be shadowed by a Premiere I1 Decapod or Lionel M1 Moutain? No measurments are on the website.

The Menards hoppers are traditional size. They are smaller than scale. IMHO, The scale Pennsy engines would look better with scale hoppers. The Mountain, in particular is a large engine and would look much better with scale hoppers. The Decapod is smaller and the difference would not be as noticeable. The bottom line is what you like. I like running scale trains and would not pair premium engines with traditional rolling stock. If you like the looks of traditional hoppers and don't mine the mismatch in size, go for it. It's your world.
I watched the video on there website of the Santa Fe ABA F units pulling a string of hoppers and they look like they would be a pretty good size to go behind a Scale Mike, Moutain etc. I'm going to order one and if it looks ok I'll order a couple of 8 car sets. I wish they were down here in Tampa.
Do you own any of Lionel's postwar style hoppers? They have 4 bays and some have covers and other don't. If you do, put one of them behind the engines you want to get the Pennsy hoppers behind and you'll see if they match up.

Let me know- I was going to order some for my Pennsy 2-10-0

I recieved 16 hoppers yesterday and they look fine behind my premiere Mike and Consolidation. They are a pretty good size and a great deal considering your getting 16 for about the price of 6 MTH Premiere hoppers. I will post a pic or two once I get the mess sorted out in the train room. Gene
Thanks Gene-
I think I will order 8 to start with.
Sounds like a great match. Post some pictures when you get a chance.

I don't know what you man by that. The Hoppers Menards uses are of the same Lionel traditional faux quad hoppers. Compared to a scale PRR H30 from Weaver models, those quad hoppers are a LOT bigger than the scale PRR H30.
Be good if someone could post side by side pics....
This is one of those situations where "traditional" covers too wide of a range. I have 3 traditional Pennsy engines and would love to find a string of hoppers. These look really nice, but they would look gigantic behind my engines.
Instead, maybe I'll pursue a JD Rockefeller layout and grab an 8-pack of Menards Quaker State tank cars. Those
Those hoppers DO look good! What other road names do they come in?

Mark,
I hate to sound spoiled, but would Menards entertain plans for a Rock Island rolling stock fleet before I bid too much on this RS-3 Switcher ?
