Menards upcoming single dome tank cars.... a discussion

I've got a K-line Ewing Oil tank car.  It was made for the 1989 TTOS Convention.

My preference would be for DEEP ROCK. I had six Weaver fifty foot tankers done up that way and would maybe like to see a multi-car offering; but only if they will be easy to two-rail (for me, anyway).

I would gladly buy a bunch of black tank cars with Sinclair on the side or Gramps or even a combination of the two.......Paul

How about functioning tank cars--sort of a flask on wheels.  Make the dome a screw top cap, and/or provide a functional valve to dispense your favorite libation.  

They could be disguised or billboard tankers.  

Come to think of it, Menards could over these with compartments corresponding to the number of domes.

As I type I'm thinking someone, somewhere, has already taken PVC pipe, capped the ends and set it on trucks with an access hatch.

The beer cars are fine, but distilled spirit tank cars would be a truly functional addition to any train.

These fantasy single domes are out now, for persons into that.

Yes - nice black UTLX, GATX, SHPX. Single dome. Without railing and with, lettered appropriately (the "with" were generally chemical cars, as I understand)

You can keep absolutely all the novelty cars, thanx.

Not meaning to sound like a rivet counter....however....

I agree that the "pool" tankers would be welcome. Having said that, and keeping in mind that I am not a rolling stock expert by any means, doesn't the design of the Menards SDTC's predate "pool" cars?

But having said that- it hasn't stopped Menards in the past from putting things such as Rail Box deco on a boxcar that is obviously far older in design than would be appropriate for Rail Box use.

I'd rather see some decos that would be about in the period that this rolling stock was used...

Also- is there a website that has information on decos of 1:1 single dome tank cars? I have found remarkably little information thus far.

32 cents for gas. Yes, that was along time ago. 😊. Although, I paid $2.05 for gasoline today.

I vote with D500, and, also, recently finished and will soon post photos of an O scale Tankard gas station, as shown by Bob Delbridge above.  While l found an old one to model in Sidney, Ohio (that l think is now gone), l also found and used the above posted photo to model mine.

Uh, second thought...while there were a number of Tankar stations, did Tankar actually operate any lettered cars on  rails?

The Burlington Northern had similar single dome tank cars in service as FUEL TENDERS. BNFT reporting marks.

I could use one. I just wonder how the people at MENARDS would number them since they start in the low double digits.

That's what we would empty when I worked at a Propane company in VA. here is a little fuzzy but picture of one of our pumping stations

When I built that HO model, Tankar Stations was still in business.  I actually went over there had looked at some photos they had.  They were located in Va.Beach:

The first 3 are fantasy schemes but two for me are a must have, Frisco and the NS. The fantasy paint schemes are ok as long as the scheme is attractive and it looks it could have been, although most likely too fancy for the products supposedly inside.

Those are too fantacy for me. 

Petroleum and wine are not the only commodities shipped in tankers. Years ago K-Line made a 3-dome car that carried corn syrup. On Amtrak I've ridden past the Corn Products (They make Bosco among other things) plant outside of Chicago enough times to know that was not a fantasy car.

The MENARDS single-dome tank car could be produced in one of the CHICAGO GREAT WESTERN paint schemes.
