I was in Slippery Rock for the weekend for an event with my family.  We were done early so I searched for a train shop on my phone.   It told Mercer Junction was about 15 miles away.  We took a drive to Mercer and visited this store.  I have to say it was a great store.  I was pleasantly surprised.   It was a great train shop.  The gentlemen running the store was super friendly.  He had a very nice selection of merchandise and his layout was excellent.  His prices seemed reasonable but I really wasn't price shopping.  It topped of an excellent day!

WOW, this is turning out to be a Great Topic. If all Model Train Stores would have a Scenicked Operating Train Layout, or even a Nice Shelf Switching Layout, or Even a Round the Store just under the Ceiling Layout, it Adds that Buy, Feeling....This can send One's Imagination into thoughts about what they might want to build.... The late Author and Model Railroader, Railroad Track Plan Expert, John Armstrong, used the word, Imagineering, which is exactly what an in store display can do... Now, I want to visit

Mercer Junction to see this layout in person.  Thanks for Posting...Happy Railroading.

I stopped in when I dropped the wife and kids at the Prime Outlets shopping center not far away.  I spent some time in the store and talked with Dave. It was a great store. Extremely organized and clean. Great selection and nice stuff for us scale guys too. I picked up a bunch of Polly scale paint, left overs he had on the shelf and some ogre lamp shade LED lights and some other items.   He was kind enough to show me some recent projects he was working on and even gave me the DCS remote to run his trains on the display. He also gave me a great tip for an MTH 3.0 diesel engine that was giving me issues.  It fixed the problem.  And the pricing was as good as it gets. Looking fwd to making another trip south to the store.

I have stated this before, but for those who haven't seen it, I will post it again.

I started in HO in the late '60s and modeled that and N until a little over 3 years ago.  I had been thinking of switching to O when I picked up a copy of OGR magazine in the Giant Eagle grocery store near where I work.  It happened to be the issue featuring Mercer Junction.  I was very impressed with the article and the whole magazine.  I went up to Mercer, a 45 minute drive from my home, that Saturday or the next.  Dave showed me some trains, let me run some on his layout, and I came out of the store with everything I needEd to get stated.  I had sold a lot of my HO and N trains to help with our two daughters' tuition, by then anyway.  I have now sold the rest.

I have recommended Mercer Junction as the store to go to in the area, and to visit online.  I have my first preorder with Dave.

Mike CT, The photos are great!  Dave has the finest store layout I have seen in person in over 45 years in trains.  I think it is well worth the space he has devoted from the store Space.

The Greenville railroad park is a very worthwhile side trip!
