Last night (1/14/15) Lionel issued an email to Value-Added Dealers announcing a 3 car set of Lion Chief Plus M7s Metro-North Cars with a 2 car add-on set also. Retail for the 3 car set is suppose to be $350.00. We here in the New York City metro area dealers have made several requests to the Lionel people for another run of these sets and the answer back was always no, so someone had a change of heart.

Does it really matter? Buy the two car add-on and just don't use the 5th car.

Why don't you tell the folks at Lionel about how Metro-North operates these cars instead of asking some else to do it.
I've been thinking about selling my Lionel M7 Metro North Set 6-30085, plus the two car add-on set. The original came with 4 cars, and a 2 car add-on.
Trying to decide whether to sell it or TMCC it. Prices on de'Bay seem to indicate some interest!

Right, this set was released because it was just a repackaging of the Batman train. Easy way to get another set out by Lionel. And it was kept as a 3 car train to keep the price in line with other starter sets most likely. These are starter sets. Buyers of those will not care that it's not prototypical.
