Got word from Tim Foley of Mianne Benchwork that his motorized lift bridge is now ready for production. It will be on display in the Orange hall at this upcoming York. Tim built a prototype for me last year to fit my existing Mianne benchwork but it did not have motorization as it was still in development. I elected to power mine with an inexpensive overhead electric winch from Harbor Freight. Tim now has developed his own method of motorization and the unit looks to be self contained. This is a great solution in eliminating duck unders and making interior space easily accessible.

Here is a clip of mine in action. Note the overhead lifting wire.

That is really a nice set up to eliminate crawling under. You gave me a great idea to build one in the doorway leading into my train room. With four decent draw guides and a linear actuator which i was lucky to obtain four of, each able to lift 400 lbs. (they were used to lift tv seta out of cabinets. This should be a fun and rewarding project.

Thanks for the great video and idea.

Thanks Joe and Brian. Tim and his wife made a visit this summer and he saw mine in action for the first time. I like to think that it "pushed" him to final development.

When my layout was first designed, some 12 or so years ago, it was done so with duck unders and the "spaghetti" type track work that I have. Finding a place to put the lift was a real challenge without having to alter my trackplan too much.

Here's what I posted on the Announcements forum, where Tim Foley introduced this innovation:

"Definitely something I will need to look into for my main layout, which is "U" shaped and built on Mianne benchwork.

At one point I had a non-removable "bridge" spanning the open end of the "U", but removed it because it was a pain in the rear end (not to mention other body parts) to crawl under it.  Removal made access much easier, but limited my curve diameters to 42" on the adjacent legs of the "U".

Since I'm considering changing track types and would much prefer wider-diameter curves for this layout, this new feature from Mianne comes at just the right time."
